What color will my Yorkie be?

What color will my Yorkie be? This is a question asked several times. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy is born Black and Tan Unless, it is a Parti-colored Yorkshire Terrier. A Chocolate Colored Yorkshire Terrier is said to be a Yorkshire Terrier that has been deprived of the color gene during pregnancy, Which alters the pigment in the puppy. But breeders today are breeding that particular color and have named it a chocolate yorkie. I am not sure whether AKC recognizes that particular color but I do know they do recognize the parti-color yorkshire Terrier.
A test if the Yorkshire Terrier 's color will remain more dark than lighter is a test of the skin. Some breeders say that if you pull back the hair and look at the skin, If it holds a blue tint in the color, odds are the Yorkie will remain dark closer to black in color. If they have a lighter tint near the skin, odds are the yorkie will become lighter when older. A true test is to look at the mom and dad.
Yorkshire Terrier's have 2 types of coats; a silky or a soft. The silky coats are the coats of the show dogs. The soft coats are short and you do not have to brush them very often. Adult Yorkshire Terriers that have a different coat such as a wooly or extra fine coats are still considered Yorkshire Terriers and will be just as good of a companion as the Yorkie with the correct coat.
Hypo allergenic- The typical fine, straight and silky Yorkshire Terriers coat has been listed by many popular dog information websites as being hypo allergenic. In comparison with many other breeds, yorkies do not shed to the same degree, only losing small amounts when bathed or brushed. All dogs shed, and it is the dog's dander and saliva that trigger most allergic reactions. Yorkshire Terriers coats is said to fall out only when brushed or broken or just said not to shed at all. Yorkies have hair not fur and that is why they are a great dog for a person with allergies.
To Keep long or cut short (puppy cut): Unless you are going to show your dog, Keeping the hair long requires a lot of work. brushing your yorkie at least twice a day if not more to keep the knots out. Yorkies with long hair are GORGEOUS and very beautiful. If you have the time to spend keeping their hair brushed and free from tangles that is great! Most people don't and usually keep the yorkie in a short puppy cut. either way is fine. I feel that when the summer comes, You would like your yorkie to be comfortable and cool, Having extra long thick hair seems like it would be a burden on the yorkie. A summer puppy cut keeps your yorkie cool. It is your decision as to what you want, but when making your decision keep the yorkies best interest in mind. After all it is he/she that has to wear the style to choose.
