Einstein has nothing on me!

To really know and understand your Yorkshire Terrier, you need to start at the beginning and know where it all began. So lets go on a journey to the beginning of the Yorkshire Terrier.....

Below is Huddersfield Ben- THEE beginning of the Yorkshire Terrier Huddersfield Ben is considered to be the father of the Modern Yorkshire Terrier. Every Yorkshire Terrier today and past came from Huddersfield Ben.

The biggest trouble of trying to get the Yorkshire Terrier just right was that each of the 3 breeds responsible to arrive at the final breed of " Yorkshire Terrier" are now extinct. Some people will say that it was more than the 3 breeds that are responsible for the Yorkshire Terrier breed, BUT The facts concerning these breeds are recorded in detail in books going as far back as 1846. The breed Name " Yorkshire Terrier" was decided in 1874 although it had been around since early 1870.

Huddersfield Ben was owned by Mrs. Jonas ( Mary) Foster. Mrs. Foster is  not only responsible for bringing the Yorkshire Terrier breed to its full prominence, She also was the very 1st women to Judge Dogs in England. Huddersfield Ben was shown in 2 classes at the Crystal Palace show in 1871 held in London and was only beaten by "Bruce" Mrs. Foster dog who was a son of Huddersfield Ben, 3rd to place was " Emperor" also Mrs. Foster's dog who

again was a son of Huddersfield Ben.

Huddersfield Ben's life was cut short when he was ran over by a carriage in 1871. He was by far the most influential dog of the fledgling breed, Tightly inbred, Ben was a great show dog who was popular and a pre potent sire.

The primary 3 breeds that are responsible for the " Yorkshire Terrier" were # 1 Clydesdale Terrier, 2nd  the Waterside Terrier also known as the Otter Terrier and the 3rd was the Old English Terrier.

Some people will argue with a Yorkshire terrier breeder stating that a labadoodle or any of the new mixed breeds are the same as the Yorkshire Terrier being of different breeds.  1st of all The Yorkshire terrier was breed with 3 different TERRIERS. same breed of dog! Take the Labadoodle for an example: breeding a Labrador retriever and a standard poodle is NOT AT ALL the same when you take 2 completely different breeds and mix them up. The Yorkshire Terrier was carefully created by staying within the Terrier breed and making sure that the breeds were of high quality bloodline. I have nothing against labadoodles, shorkies,or any other mixed breeds, but call them what they are mixed breeds. How was this breed created, did someone take the time to research the genetics of the 2 different breeds and what if any problems that might develop by mixing these 2 breeds. I bet if you researched it, you will find it was not at all carefully researched but someone just decided that it would be cute. Which some of the mixed breeds are cute. But I don't feel giving them a name and saying they are a purebred dog is honest. I don't feel a person should have to pay money to get a mixed breed dog at all. When I was growing up, a mixed dog was just that and they were usually always given away.

This is something that I just had to state, with all the time and effort that went into creating the Yorkshire Terrier and the high quality of bloodline and DNA testing that took place, to try and put a Yorkshire Terrier in the same category as a labadoodle or smorkie or etc. Does not only show the lack of quality and knowledge of the person that is stating it, but obviously they do not take the quality and purebred of a dog very seriously and that is very sad.
