Know your puppies Registration !

AKC, CKC, APRI, UKC, CKC, etc.......... Confusing isn't it?  Hopefully the following will give you an idea on the registries out there and which are reputable and who is not.

AKC- (AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB)

AKC is the oldest dog registry in the United States, and the largest purebred dog registry in the world. AKC maintains a registry of purebred canines from more than 150 breeds. AKC upholds the highest quality of purebred dogs. AKC holds their breeders accountable for their breeding and conduct. AKC conducts over 5,000 kennel inspections every year to ensure the integrity of the AKC registry and monitor care and conditions at kennels across the country (including kennels inside homes).

AKC is all about D.O.G.s-

AKC sponsors 16,500 dog events per year including conformation( like Westminster or the eukanuba National Championship) agility, obedience, rally, tracking, lure coursing, earthdog, field trail, hunt test, and coonhound events.

AKC awards $ 260,000 in scholarships to veterinary students and youths active in the sport of purebred dogs.

AKC began AKC companion Animal Recovery (CAR), which has reunited more than 250,000 lost pets with their owners.

AKC operates a canine Legislation Dept. that provides input for Federal, State, and local legislation governing responsible dog ownership.

AKC offers the largest , most comprehensive set of DNA programs for the purposes of parentage verification and genetic identity to ensure reliable registration records.

AKC takes great pride in their purebred dogs and keeps strict control on the registry of dogs, puppies and litters.

AKC is all about ensuring the bloodline and quality of the purebred dog. That is why you cannot registry a puppy with CKC, UKC, APRI,CKC papers with AKC. BUT it is amazing that if you have a puppy that is AKC registered most of the other registries don't have a problem registering your AKC dog with their registry. Makes sense you have the highest quality of dog why wouldn't they want you to register with them, But why would you?

UKC- (UNITED KENNEL CLUB)

UKC is the 2nd oldest registry in the United States right behind AKC. UKC is not part of the International Canine Organization, as most other countries Kennel clubs are. UKC was founded in 1898 by Chauncey Bennett who was a Vice President of AKC. Some AKC detractors claim that the club was originally founded so that the founder could register his American Pitt Bull Terrier. UKC also upholds a high quality of purebred dogs. The UKC provides a registry for working dogs. UKC conceives the concept of a total dog. A dog that performs as well as it looks. Which intelligence and working ability was as important as the conformation. UKC also promotes its DNA testing to uphold the quality and establish parentage of the puppy.

UKC does hold family oriented dog shows and events.

CKC- (CANADIAN KENNEL CLUB)

CKC is the primary registry body for purebred dogs in Canada and currently recognize 175 breeds. Canadian Kennel Club is equal in quality and perfection in Canada as AKC is in the United States. CKC up holds a very high quality for the purebred dogs. CKC is incorporated under the Animal Pedigree Act, A federal statue under the auspices of the ministry of Agriculture. the organization includes approx. 25,000 individual members and over 700 breed clubs across Canada. CKC registers purebred dogs, regulates dog shows and performance events, and speaks out on major issues concerning dog ownership and the health & welfare of dogs across Canada.

CKC Canadian Kennel Club is NOT to be recognized as the CKC Continental Kennel Club here in the Untied States which was sued by the Canadian Kennel Club for using their CKC name to increase their client base. CKC Continental Kennel Club is NOT even close in quality as the Canadian Kennel Club and when looking for a puppy that is registered CKC ask them if they are Canadian Kennel Club or Continental Kennel Club. There is a BIG difference.

CKC- (CONTINENTAL KENNEL CLUB)

CKC Continental Kennel Club was founded in 1991.CKC offers the dog world a choice in canine registration services. CKC is the only registry that registers mixed dogs (mutts) and calls them purebred? Yorkipoos, morkies, labradoddles, smorkies, etc.... Just think of how many mixes you could come up with and charge alot of money for because they are CKC registered. CKC dont care about the quality of the breed, Just the Quantity of your money. They dont hold breeders accountable for their dogs health and genetic traits which is not much different than a puppymill. CKC is a new registry which does not research the background of the dog, it's pedigree, and the DNA of the sire. So buying a CKC dog or puppy, you never really know what you are getting?

APRI- (AMERICA'S PET REGISTRY INC.)

APRI has the lowest quality of puppies. ANY reputable breeder would NEVER registry their puppies with APRI unless their litter has been refused by a reputable club. APRI is nothing more than a USDA licensed puppy mill. APRI supports puppy mills and is in it for the money only. Not the well being of the puppies. I have not found anything at all nice about this registry. KEEP AWAY.

I hope that the above information has helped bring light on the confusion of the different registries. Facts are Facts and the above should point to the registry that started it all AKC. I have talked to breeders that have AKC dogs and said they now register their dogs with CKC, when I asked why they said " AKC is just too strict"  Which leads me to believe that  AKC probably caught them trying to registry or breed below standards.

Do the research and learn about the registry that you choose to buy from. If you pay good money to have a good healthy purebred dog, don't you want the best of the breed? Please do the research before you buy your puppy, You owe it to yourself and the puppy that you wish to make a part of your family.

The choice is up to you. The above information is just a reference of information to help you understand the registries better.

DRA: (Dog Registry of America) This is the latest pathetic registry out there. I usually don't criticize a registry but this one takes the cake. This registry is formerly the UK Kennel Club. they will registry ANYTHING! just as long as they get your $ 20.00 per dog and $ 25.00 for the litter and $ 75.00 for a kennel name! WOW they talk about the hassle of AKC and other registries about DNA and such and taking your money. They DO NOT Guarantee the quality,pedigree,health,etc... of the dogs. They say they will register any breed. AND unrecognized breeds. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that they are Strictly in it for the money, They have found that HIGH QUALITY Registries will NOT register mixed breeds or breeds that have health issues, But here at DRA they don't care just as long as they get their money! I thought that APRI was the lowest quality of a registry. This one gives APRI a boost up. They are by far the worst quality registry. Money hungry people that found a way to make money off people by telling them we will register your dog and give you a paper stating that it is purebred.
ACA ( American Canine Association, Inc. This registry started in 1984. In it for the money? Well when you have a registry that will register a dog that is from another registry and call it dual registry. That is a joke! Uneducated buyers out there think to themselves, WOW I have a dog that is registered with 2 different registries. This to me is an alarm, 1st of all why would anyone register a dog with 2 different registries? I understand why a registry such as this offers the ability to do so. $$$$$$ more money in their pocket. Just another registry thought up by someone to make money. DUAL registry makes no sense unless there was a problem with one of them. ACA,CKC,DRA,UK,APRI, all offer Dual registry, Want to know why because they don't care what you register, If you have a dog that is registered CKC and you buy another dog that is APRI that's fine we will mix and match we don't care as long as you give us money. How could anyone not think that they are in it for the money?
