AKC is the oldest dog registry in the United States, and the largest purebred dog registry in the world. AKC maintains a registry of purebred canines from more than 150 breeds. AKC upholds the highest quality of purebred dogs. AKC holds their breeders accountable for their breeding and conduct. AKC conducts over 5,000 kennel inspections every year to ensure the integrity of the AKC registry and monitor care and conditions at kennels across the country (including kennels inside homes).

AKC sponsors 16,500 dog events per year including conformation( like Westminster or the eukanuba National Championship) agility, obedience, rally, tracking, lure coursing, earthdog, field trail, hunt test, and coonhound events.
AKC awards $ 260,000 in scholarships to veterinary students and youths active in the sport of purebred dogs.
AKC began AKC companion Animal Recovery (CAR), which has reunited more than 250,000 lost pets with their owners.
AKC operates a canine Legislation Dept. that provides input for Federal, State, and local legislation governing responsible dog ownership.
AKC offers the largest , most comprehensive set of DNA programs for the purposes of parentage verification and genetic identity to ensure reliable registration records.
AKC takes great pride in their purebred dogs and keeps strict control on the registry of dogs, puppies and litters.
AKC is all about ensuring the bloodline and quality of the purebred dog. That is why you cannot registry a puppy with CKC, UKC, APRI,CKC papers with AKC. BUT it is amazing that if you have a puppy that is AKC registered most of the other registries don't have a problem registering your AKC dog with their registry. Makes sense you have the highest quality of dog why wouldn't they want you to register with them, But why would you?
