It is plain and simple there is
NO SUCH THING AS A TEACUP OR T CUP YORKIE!
This teacup myth was concocted by puppy mills and extremely poor breeders as simply a ploy to make more money by telling people that these are
" special" or " Rare" Yorkies. PLEASE. A so called Teacup or t cup Yorkie is nothing more than the RUNT of the litter. The fact that some breeders and puppy mills are labeling them as "teacup or t cup" so that they can make more money is sad and pathetic.
How do they come up with the teacup or t cup yorkie? well today some greedy unethical breeders are trying to breed a runt to a runt in order to try to get smaller dogs. This is not only pathetic but it causes very unhealthy little babies. Not to mention that the female WILL always have to have a c-section for delivery. Why would anyone want to put a female dog thru a c-section every time she has a litter? Runts are very beautiful little yorkies, BUT call them what they are really are small Yorkies NOT tea-cups!
NONE of the kennel clubs AKC, CKC, APRI, CKC(canadian) etc.. endorse or condone the use of any of these terms and are warning a new puppy buyer to be very cautious and not be to misled by a breeder trying to get more money for the runts. In fact AKC would like to know about any breeder rising the prices and calling the runt of the litter a teacup. They frown on this tactic as I am sure other kennel clubs do.
This is not to scare you away from wanting a runt of a litter at all! The runts are just as special as the rest of the litter. But please keep in mind that a very small and fragile Yorkie is going to need more attention. A smaller yorkie 1-2lbs or so, will not live as long as the 4-7 lb yorkies because they tend to have more heath issues. As I have discussed with several vets, when a very small yorkie also known as the runt of the litter becomes sick, sometimes they have even a hard time just to find the vein to draw blood. etc.. Keep in mind the little guy/girl needs to be watched carefully around children and other animals, even thou Yorkies think they are very big dogs, they can get hurt very easily especially the runts of the litter. The runts are subject to Hypoglycemia do to their size.
Please beware any breeder that calls their runt a teacup or t cup Yorkie, If they are misleading you into thinking that they have a very rare or special yorkie by calling it something that it is not (an believe me they know there is no such thing) Why or how can you trust buying a puppy from them? Rising the price to get more money shows me that they are in it for the money and not the well being of the puppy! Don't get me wrong there are Yorkies out there that are Championship show dogs, Agility champions or conformation champions that deserve to charge a high price for their puppies, They have worked very hard to uphold the integrity and bloodline of the Yorkie and the high quality is worth the money. They go for thousands of dollars and of course people that are looking to show are the people that are willing to pay those prices. Also keep in mind those puppies are NOT 1-2lbs but the standard 4-7lb Yorkies, otherwise they could not register for the shows.People that just want a Yorkie for a pet puppy usually dont spend that kind of money.
